6800 N. Sheridan, Stanleigh Hotel, Ralph C. Harris (1917) |
To the right is a detail from the door surround at the former Stanleigh Hotel, which I wrote about back in 2011 (Click here to read that entry.)
Anyway, I've been playing around with digital color for a couple of years as a way to emphasize my own drawings. But once the lines are left behind even more information can be conveyed with color. This image depended on skills I hadn't really acquired, so it was a nightmare to develop. If I ever do a similar treatment it should go a heck of a lot faster.
Could you do Albion betwwwn Sheridan and Lake?
ReplyDeleteHaven't really be over there much, but it's definitely an interesting area.
DeleteWhen they last remodeled the Stanleigh Hotel building, they didn't really do it with a lot of care or caution (in my opinion, from touring the condos afterward), so it's nice that detail like this remains. And it's nice that you document it. Really neat to see.
ReplyDeleteI was just back in town recently (escaping Hurricane Irma, since I now live in Miami) and had dinner at Rogers Pier in that building. Nothing special, but an easy place to get some fried shrimp and a beer.
Thanks Al. Haven't been to Rogers Pier yet, but may give it a try. Glad you missed the hurricane!
DeleteI first noticed this one as a kid while riding in a car, waiting in traffic, on many trips past it. I've always loved the richness of ornament.
